Flashnet achieves D4i certification for FRE-24 Zhaga luminaire controller
We are proud to announce that our FRE-24 Zhaga luminaire controller (NB-IoT/LTE-M) has officially received the D4i certification from the DALI Alliance, confirming full compliance with the DALI-2 standard, the global protocol for digital communication in lighting systems.

What does the D4i certification mean for our customers?
D4i (DALI for IoT) is specifically designed for connected lighting environments, where luminaires are intelligent nodes within a broader urban system.
Assured interoperability. The controller is certified to communicate correctly with any D4i-compliant luminaire driver and any other D4i-certified device on the same bus. This eliminates integration guesswork when combining components from different manufacturers and removes the single-vendor dependency that has historically complicated large-scale smart lighting projects.
Standardised diagnostics, without additional infrastructure. Because D4i defines the exact data objects that drivers must store and report, the controller can retrieve structured asset, energy and fault data from the luminaire’s LED driver directly, without requiring proprietary add-ons or separate metering devices. Maintenance teams gain detailed luminaire health information at the individual lamp level, through the same controller and the same CMS platform they already use.
Plug-and-play installation across luminaire brands. The combination of the Zhaga Book 18 physical interface and D4i digital protocol means that the controller can be installed into any Zhaga-D4i compatible luminaire from any manufacturer – simply plugging in, twisting to lock and commissioning remotely. No special tools, no luminaire-specific configurations.
Compliance with procurement requirements. Across Europe, and specifically in markets where government programmes explicitly mandate D4i/ZD4i certification, the D4i certification is a hard qualification requirement. The listing in the DiiA database provides the documentary evidence procurement teams require.
Strengthening an open and interoperable ecosystem
For municipalities and utilities, interoperability is essential if they aim for a flexible, scalable and vendor-neutral infrastructure.
“The D4i certification of our Zhaga lighting controllers reflects the product philosophy that has guided Flashnet since its earliest smart street lighting deployments. We see certification not as a formality, but as an independent validation of quality and consistency across our controller portfolio, a way to ensure standards-based interoperability and long-term reliability for cities and utilities worldwide.” — Alexandru Buzatu, CCO at Flashnet.
The FRE-24 Zhaga luminaire controllers are one component within a broader architecture designed around openness at every layer. At the luminaire level, D4i certification ensures that the controller communicates using a verified, standardised digital protocol, independent of which manufacturer produced the driver or the fitting. At the network level, multi-protocol connectivity across NB-IoT and LTE-M ensures that inteliLIGHT adapts to existing communication infrastructure rather than requiring cities to rebuild it. And at the platform level, TALQ 2 certification ensures that the inteliLIGHT CMS communicates with any TALQ-compliant device or management system, preserving operational freedom even as cities grow and change their technology choices over time.
The result is a smart lighting system where no single component creates a dependency: municipalities retain genuine freedom to choose their luminaire suppliers, their network operators and their city management platforms, while the data flows accurately and in a format every certified component understands.
